ON THE COVER Every birthday should have cake, and a city turning 300-years old is no exception! Chef and pastry instructor Melissa Fritz of The Culinary Institute of America San Antonio, located in The Pearl, spent 30 hours to craft the ultimate BIG 3-0-0 cake for San Antonio. It features fondant frosting and edible flowers, along with edible confection tiles of iconic San Antonio symbols. Kudos to Joe Chidgey who managed to photograph the creation without nibbling on the frosting.

THE RIVER WALK MAY NOT BE MAGIC, BUT IT IS MAGICAL. Nothing beats an early morning walk on her banks to feel the stress melt away. There’s something about the water, the towering cypress and the sound of nature that quiets the noise in my brain. The same holds for a good meal and a cocktail on a riverside patio. My blood pressure lowers. And after a boat ride and a little shopping, well, I can honestly say I’ve spent a magical day. As San Antonio celebrates 300 years this month, our city’s Tricentennial, that magical feeling permeates the entire city. The warmth of the people, the cultural vibrancy, the acceptance and celebration of individuality, and the feeling that anything is possible. Our city has the wisdom of age and the vitality and optimism of youth—and that IS magic.

So how is it that San Antonio has become a regional epicenter of cocktails and cocktail culture? Part of the credit goes to the San Antonio Cocktail Conference, which has taken place here for nearly a decade.

Every January, cocktail professionals and enthusiasts come together for seminars, tastings, cocktail parties and grand events. Even better, the event raises money to support children’s charities. A couple of places in town even have connections with James Beard nominations, so you know this is a town that is serious about its cocktails. Work your way through this alphabetical listing of establishments when you’re ready for a place that offers flavorful and well-balanced cocktails. BAR 1919 Owner Don Marsh draws upon his encyclopedic knowledge of libations to offer creative takes on classic cocktails and a smooth, unobtrusive level of service that’s not too chummy and definitely not stiff. With more than 600 bottles of premium spirits, dozens of wine varieties and more than 100 imported and American craft beer options in bottles and on tap, it’s a place for some serious spirits enjoyment.
BLUE BOX Owner Steve Mahoney offers a stylish yet accessible cocktail spot in the heart of the trendy Pearl Brewery.
On the third Thursday of every month, Marsh shares some of his knowledge with a tasting seminar that covers items such as the history, flavor profile, proper nosing and tasting techniques among a vast selection of essential spirits, cocktails, and beer.
He’s a bar impresario whose other projects include gastropub Francis Bogside in the Southtown neighborhood, the Asian-inspired Hanzo in Alamo Heights and craft cocktail haven George’s Keep in the Éilan shopping development. The name, by the way, comes from the days when Pearl was a brewery and workers were allowed to drink a few beers while on the job. An unmarked blue cooler, known as the Blue Box, kept beer for the third-shift workers.
And make sure to check the website for the house rules. Rules like: “Please, speak-easy,” “Do NOT ask for a Cosmo, Long Island Ice Tea, Jager anything or ‘socalled drinks’ of this kind, especially energy drinks,” and “If you wouldn’t introduce them to your mom, then don’t bring them here. We are NOT that kind of bar.” In other words, respect the bar, respect the craft and respect yourself. Not bad rules to follow inside and outside a bar.

young and young-ish professionals. But because this is also San Antonio, it’s still friendly and welcoming. It’s a great place to stop before or after dinner at one of The Pearl’s noted restaurants, or just chill for a while. Downstairs
DOWNSTAIRS Since 2016, Downstairs has offered a refined space that pairs incredibly creative crafted cocktails with a thoughtful selection of Champagne, natural wines, sherry, cider, rare spirits and bottle-conditioned beer. For culinary offerings, Chef Brooke Smith offers a simple menu of fresh oysters, charcuterie (much of it cured in-house) and an intriguing selection of cheeses.

Downstairs is the younger sibling to the Esquire Tavern, perhaps the best-known bar in San Antonio among national cocktail lovers. The Esquire received a James Beard nomination as Best Bar Program in 2012. Its history traces back to the end of Prohibition in 1933. It closed from 2006 to 2011 and reopened as a swanky, upscale destination that paid respect to its grimy past. Whether you stay on the street level at the Esquire, make your way down a stairway, or walk in from river level, be ready for a memorable experience. JUNIPER TAR In Spain, the combination of Coke and red wine is called kalimotxo, and that concoction is an ingredient in one of the clever and tasty cocktails from the general manager and beverage director Benjamin Krick. Krick’s library of bottles includes more than 900 bottled spirits that he has chosen personally, and they come to life in cocktails that include other exotic ingredients such as oloroso and fino sherries, Armagnac, byrrh, white port, housemade lime cordial and Madiera.

One of the best-known cocktails, the Silver and Black, is a nod to the local NBA team, the Spurs. The drink is a mezcal sour that adds lemon, simple syrup, charcoal and an egg white to the featured spirit, topped with the team logo etched into the foam top. So whether you want to nerd out with all kinds of obscure spirits, learn something new or sip on a cold, familiar beer, there’s a place for you at this bar. Who says you have to go to college somewhere over the rainbow when there are so many great choices right here in the Alamo City? It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out there’s no place like home when it comes to higher education options. Don’t know where to start? Just follow the yellow brick road to success. ALAMO COLLEGES DISTRICT The first stop on the San Antonio college tour is Alamo Colleges District which includes five independently accredited colleges: San Antonio College, St. Philip’s College, Palo Alto College, Northwest Vista College, and Northeast Lakeview College. More than 80,000 students enroll annually in academic courses for transfer to a four-year university or occupational/technical courses. Admission is “open” by state law, which means anyone with a high school diploma or GED can attend. A few great benefits to the Alamo Colleges District is students can take their first two years of requirements for a bachelor’s degree for much less than they would pay if they began as a freshman at a four-year institution. And students who transfer to universities generally do better than students who began at the university as freshmen. Full-time tuition per semester (12 hours) is only $1,032. Student activities include intramural sports such as basketball and soccer. There is also a wide range of student support services including services for veterans, disabled students, non-traditional students, childcare, and tutoring.

THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT SAN ANTONIO Ease on down the road to UTSA and join nearly 31,000 students on this vibrant, public university campus that offers all the benefits of a large school with the personalized attention of a private school. UTSA students have access to 160 bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs and are ranked among the top four universities in the nation under 50 years old. Areas of research excellence include advanced materials and manufacturing; cloud, cybersecurity, computing, analytics and data sciences; integrated biomedicine: neurosciences/ .
brain health, regenerative and molecular medicine and infectious diseases; social and educational policy and innovation; and sustainable communities and critical infrastructure. Tuition and fees per semester for full-time (15 hours) undergraduate students is $4,886. The 2017 acceptance rate for all UTSA students is 81 percent. There are more than 350 registered student organizations including student government, academic clubs, social and professional organizations, 16 fraternities and 14 sororities, cultural groups and service groups. The UTSA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics sponsors 17 sports at the NCAA Division I level and UTSA students receive free admission to all home Roadrunner events. More than 4,000 students make themselves at home on the UTSA Main Campus. About 2,300 students live in one of three residence halls. There are also many different meal plans for students to use at oncampus dining facilities. ST. MARY’S UNIVERSITY As the Tin Man would say, life could be a ding-aderry if you only choose St. Mary’s University. St. Mary’s has a tradition of academic excellence including programs like the Nelson Wolff Law Early Admission Program where qualified students are invited to pursue their J.D. after completing their third year of undergraduate study at St. Mary’s. And the Industrial Engineering program, established in 1960, is the only program of its kind in San Antonio. The undergraduate acceptance rate for St. Mary’s University is 80 percent. The semester cost for undergraduate study at St. Mary’s is $14,855 per semester—far below the national average for private schools. There is a two-year residency requirement for undergraduate students with 13 residential facilities and services offered. (But students from RIO Magazine

Bexar County are exempt from living on campus if they chose to live at home with a parent or grandparent.) Students who live on campus are required to have a meal plan, and the University offers many flexible options. St. Mary’s is home to 13 fraternities and sororities along with the NCAA Division II Rattlers competing in baseball, men’s basketball, men’s golf, men’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s basketball, women’s golf, women’s soccer, softball, women’s tennis and volleyball. TRINITY UNIVERSITY Click your heels together three times, and you will find Trinity University, a private liberal arts institution known for its Entrepreneur program, experiential learning and pre-professional programs such as education and business, STEM fields, communication, computer science, modern languages, and literature. The student/faculty ratio is 9:1. For the 2017-18 year (two semesters), the tuition cost is $40,728, and the acceptance rate was 38 percent.

Trinity is described as having “dorms like palaces” and has a three-year residency requirement, meaning all students must live on campus through their junior year. Trinity offers many extracurricular leadership positions in 75 clubs and volunteer groups ranging from the Student Government Association to the Chess Club to inclusive religious student groups. Trinity has six fraternities, and seven sororities and about 24 percent of Trinity students pledge while on campus. Many students belong to organizations such as the
Trinity Bee Alliance or participate in the annual Chocolate Festival. Trinity is an NCAA Division III school with 18 sports plus robust club, intramural sports, and outdoor recreation programs. About 65 percent of students participate in some form of athletics while at Trinity. UNIVERSITY OF THE INCARNATE WORD Wish upon a star, and you could be a student on the beautiful main campus of University of the Incarnate Word located in the heart of San Antonio’s Alamo Heights. With locations throughout the city, South and Central Texas, two campuses in Mexico and international sister schools, UIW is truly a global institution. Small class sizes offer personal attention in more than 90 academic programs at the undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and professional levels. The healthcare programs in nursing, pharmacy, optometry, physical therapy and osteopathic medicine are some of the most comprehensive among private universities in Texas. Annual tuition for the 2015/2016 academic year was $27,000. At UIW, you’ll find NCAA Division I sports and more than 90 student organizations including 23 teams representing 14 different sports and an active campus life that includes Greek life, service organizations, special-interest groups, intramurals and intercollegiate athletics. San Antonio’s San Antonio’s ethnic diversity has infused the city’s food, architecture, and music. And this Tricentennial year is the perfect time to experience the musical playlist of cultures that call San Antonio home. By Susan Yerkes The Native Americans who traveled to live by San Antonio’s gushing springs and quiet creeks made music that celebrated nature – the clear sky, clouds and rushing waters. Those same features attracted explorers, missionaries, and pioneers to pitch their tents and build forts, missions, and ranches here. Fields irrigated by Spanish acequias drew waves of permanent settlers, each with their musical traditions. Today their musical heritage resonates through plazas, neighborhoods and gathering places. Listen, and you’ll hear echoes of the Spanish flamenco or the Mexican corrida. European immigrants brought their traditions, from accordion to pipes and drums to guitar and dulcimer. The old musicians were the kings of crossover, adapting familiar airs to the fiddle or banjo, creating new sounds in this new country. You can hear them all in San Antonio, from the stages of downtown’s historic theaters to cozy neighborhood spots to the lively cafes that line the River Walk. The Mexican connection is alive and thriving in San Antonio’s musical scene. If you’re in town for Cinco de Mayo, a lively holiday, let yourself be swept up in the celebrations along the river and throughout town. Enjoy the lively rhythm of mariachis – Mexico’s dramatically costumed street musicians, who entertain at several River Walk and Market Square cafes, strolling through the tables and pausing to serenade visitors. (Remember, if they serenade you with a song, a tip is almost always de rigueur – and well worth it.) Treat yourself to an incredibly different musical experience on sacred ground, at a Mariachi Mass. Two of the four magnificent old Spanish missions in the city’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites offer church services accompanied by mariachi choirs on Sundays at noon. Concepción, the closest mission to downtown on the Mission Trail, and San José, 18 RIO Magazine
the “Queen of the Missions” with its gorgeously restored buildings and grounds, are worth seeing for their historical beauty. But to experience the soulful, soaring harmonies in these high-arched stone chapels is a lifetime memory. There’s plenty to explore at both missions, so arrive early – 10:30 at the latest, if you want a seat since these masses are as popular with locals as they are with visitors. San Fernando Cathedral, the oldest continuously open church in Texas, rivals the rococo cathedrals of Mexico and Spain and offers its own Mariachi Mass, sung by a purely vocal choir, at 5 p.m. on Saturday afternoons. Take a break for supper at a River Walk café, Texas Dulcimers and return to San Fernando and Main Plaza for the stunning, free sound and light show, “San Antonio: The Saga, “at 9, 9:30 or 10 p.m. Conjunto music is, to some, the quintessential “Tex-Mex” sound’ – a tuneful, accordion-driven amalgam of borderland rhythms, the perfect sound for dancing a sprightly cumbia or polka. That’s what the crowd will be doing at the historic Guadalupe Theatre’s 37th Annual Tejano Conjunto Festival, with events from May 15 to 20. This is “Puro San Antonio,” straight from local neighborhoods, starting with the May 15th Accordion Wars competition at Sam’s Burger Joint, a mile north of downtown on the urban hip Broadway corridor. You don’t have to be AARP-age to get your Latin groove on at the free Seniors Conjunto dance at the restored Guadalupe Theater from 10 am to noon on May 16. Conjunto caters to an ageless population, and some of these dancing seniors leave their younger neighbors eating virtual sawdust on the dance floor! The central festival, featuring a 30-plus-act line-up of conjunto stars including multiple Grammy-winner Flaco Jimenez, bajo sexto-playing legend Max Baca and “Queen of the Accordion” Eva Ybarra will fill the West Side Rosedale Park with fans May 18th-20th. thesanantonioriverwalk.com

Mexico is commonly associated with San Antonio, but many are surprised to learn how deep the city’s German roots run. In the mid1800s, great waves of German immigrant carried their culture to Central Texas and the fertile lands of the Hill Country, leaving lasting impressions that still flourish today. In fact, in 1876, German-speaking citizens outnumbered English-speaking Anglos or Hispanics in this growing town. While that’s no longer the case, many of the clubs, institutions, and traditions these German immigrants brought from the Old Country are still among the city’s delights. The German Casino Association built the domed, landmark Casino Building on the River Walk in 1856, and it’s members put on some of the first formal dramas, concerts, and dances in the city. La Villita became a largely German neighborhood known as “Little Rhein.” An upscale steakhouse in a historical La Villita building commemorates the name. German beer halls and music halls abounded. Today, the 1895 Beethoven Mannerchor, the headquarters
of a traditional German men’s choir founded in 1867, keeps traditions alive with its buildings and beer garden in the heart of Southtown. The choir celebrated 150 years, and it’s still going strong, – joined by traditional German bands and a women’s Damenchor. On First Fridays, when Southtown’s trendy boutiques and cozy galleries host a massive monthly art walk, the Mannerchor is the place for all kinds of music, merriment and mouth-watering German food, from pretzels to spaetzle, sausage and sauerkraut – washed down with plenty of beer. This year the Mannerchor is celebrating the city’s 300th birthday with a special German Maifest May 15, featuring a 50-piece concert band, the Beethoven big band and more, so you can oompah the night away, and dance around a Maypole, old-world style. Scots and Irish pioneers flocked to Texas, too. The San Antonio Pipes and Drums and other groups of musicians in kilts are frequently featured at
events and festivals. With its incredibly rich musical confluence of cultures, you might say almost any ethnic musician could consider a San Antonio stop a homecoming of sorts. You can live here for years and never have time to experience each section of the city’s multi-ethnic symphony. But don’t let that keep you from diving into the sound pool. For a city that pre-dates the Declaration of Independence, San Antonio is by any measure a mature metropolis, but it has the heart of a young hamlet. Founded in 1718 by Spanish missionaries, San Antonio is celebrating its Tricentennial all year long, but the first week in May will pay special tribute to all those who’ve made the Alamo City one of America’s unique and well-loved municipalities. Day of Reflection Founded as a mission, San Antonio is on land that had been occupied by native people for thousands of years. The Day of Reflection is an opportunity for faith-based communities to set their intentions for the next 300 years during a candlelight vigil. Attendees will have the opportunity to write their hopes and prayers on ribbons that will be on display throughout the week. At 8:18 p.m. (20:18), church bells will ring throughout the city. A commemorative flame will symbolize San Antonio’s unity while leaders of 21 religious groups will offer minute-long blessings. The evening will wrap up with a video/ art projection of San Antonio | The Saga on San Fernando Cathedral. 26 RIO Magazine

History and Education San Antonio’s residents and visitors will have the opportunity to engage in the city’s 300 years of history in every city council district at all 28 public libraries with hands-on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, and math) activities. VIA Metropolitan Transit will also host a mobile Confluence and Culture learning lab. The City of San Antonio’s Parks and Recreation Department will plant 300 trees at higher education institutions throughout the city, and Trinity University Press will release a commemorative book available for purchase on its website.
Founders Day
This day will celebrate San Antonio’s founding as a municipality in 1731. A ticketed fundraiser/gala will take place at the Henry B. González Convention Center, but free celebrations will occur all around town.
The Texas A&M, University-San Antonio celebration, will focus on Native American and Latino contributions to San Antonio. The University of Texas at San Antonio will host a mini-Folklife Festival that highlights San Antonio’s cultural diversity. St. Philip’s will showcase the life of its founder, Artemisia Bowden, in a play, and it will present a curated exhibit of 22 local African-American artists. Our Lady of the Lake University will feature the West Side’s contributions to San Antonio, including walking/biking tours of its large-scale murals. Morgan’s Wonderland will offer free admission to the entire community, highlighting San Antonio’s inclusiveness to people of all abilities.

Friday’s events will feature art celebrations throughout the city and at local museums. At 8:30 a.m., Mexico’s Tricentennial gift to San Antonio, “Alas de la Cuidad” by artist Jorge Marin, will be dedicated at the Tower of the Americas’ courtyard. Admission at area museums– Blue Star Contemporary, the DoSeum, the Witte, SAY Sí, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, the Linda Pace Foundation and more–will be free from 3 p.m.
to 6 p.m. A Musical Bridges Concert is slated for the Carver Center. Free dance and choir performances will take place at public spaces along with free tours of public art. Also, Bexar County will host a 5-mile long celebration at Mission San Juan, Mission Concepción and Mission County Park from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. that will end with a giant display of fireworks over the Mission Reach.

Military Appreciation Last but not least, Sunday will celebrate San Antonio’s long and illustrious military history and its current active duty military who serve at Joint Base San Antonio. After all, Military City USA, San Antonio’s nickname, is registered trademark. Ft. Sam Houston will be open to the public for hourly tours and demonstrations from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will close out with a big musical act and fireworks. To prepare for the week’s events, don’t miss “Confluence and Culture: 300 Years of San Antonio History,” a Tricentennial exhibition at the Witte Museum through Jan. 6, 2019. Visitors will gain a better understanding of the people–Native American, Spanish, Mexican, Tejanos, German, African American, military and more–who have made and continue to make San Antonio the exceptional city that it is. April brought San Antonio showers of cascarones at Fiesta, and May is bringing in blooms of lavender flowers throughout the Texas Hill Country. Becker Vineyards, a short day-trip or weekend getaway from Downtown San Antonio, not only brings gorgeous blooms of lavender, but a glass or two of wine with the view! Richard and Bunny Becker originally went looking to buy a Hill Country cabin, and they came away with a full vineyard. The pair got to work and planted the grapes in 1992 and opened in 1996. But they didn’t stop there. After a trip to Provence in 1998, they were inspired to fill the rest of their land with lavender, which makes for the ultimate Springtime retreat. THE WINERY: All wines are made on site from the grapes grown in the vineyard, and the best part is that you can experience a Texas wine tasting and a tour of the winery from grape to bottle. The tour even showcases their

underground wine cellar. The tasting may even leave you feeling presidential, as Becker wines have been served in three presidential administrations and multiple White House dinners. The vineyard has also won multiple international wine competitions. Most popular white: Viognier Reserve, which is the Becker’s favorite. It won the 2017 Lone Star International Wine Competition and contains notes of lemon, peach, and vanilla. Most popular red: Raven, this is a dry blend of Malbec and Petit Verdot with notes of vanilla, spice, and raspberry.

THE LAVENDER FIELDS: Becker Vineyards is home to over three acres of Spanish lavender. While the concept was French inspired, the Beckers found that Spanish lavender was better suited for the Hill Country climate. This year, the vineyard is celebrating its 20th Annual Lavender Fest the weekend of May 5th through 6th. This festival is always gardening centric and features famed Hill Country Lavender Luncheons. The festivities also include local lavender vendors, presentations, cooking demos, music, and of course wine. THE LAVENDER SHOP: After you fall in love with the fresh lavender scented Hill Country air, you can take a little piece of it home for yourself. The vineyard sells products fresh from the farm including potpourri, soaps, lotions, shower gels, herbs de Provence, and dried lavender for cooking. WHILE IN HILL COUNTRY: Make sure to check out other lavender farms and attractions like: Hill Country Lavender, Enchanted Rock, August E’s, and the charming downtown shops of Fredericksburg.

DOWNTOWN VIBE: Spend day two downtown with brunch and bicycles. Sleep in and get a late start at Halcyon in the Blue Star Arts Complex. On Saturdays and Sundays, nosh on fried chicken and waffles with a little bourbon maple syrup as a friendly reminder of yesterday’s boozy fun. The wide-range of eggs benedicts pair great with a bacon bloody mary or treat yourself to $1 mimosas with the purchase of a brunch entree. Then it’s time to bike your way around the King William district. SWell Cycle (formerly Bcycle) rents bicycles from stations throughout the downtown area. You can buy a pass at the kiosk and hop on a bike near Blue Star, or drive over to the station on Flores and Alamo. This location gives you access to the Villa Finale and Steves Homestead, two of the historic homes in the district offering a selfguided tour of the property includes the interior rooms and three buildings outside. Villa Finale was the last home of Walter Nold Mathis, a key player in the revitalization of King William. The grounds are free to visit and modest house access and tour. The home
boasts a 12,500-piece collection of historical pieces including European furniture, Bell silver, Texas furniture and decorative arts. Round out your bicycle tour through King William with a scenic ride through the small wooden cottages and large 1800s historic mansions. Stop by the Guenther House museum, and don’t miss the Commander’s House Park and King William Park. Then grab a nightcap at the history-laden Liberty Bar. GET OUT OF TOWN: If you want to retreat from the city, try a day trip out to Natural Bridge Caverns. The caverns feature a 60-foot limestone bridge, and the experience is one of the most popular attractions in Texas. The Discovery Tour is a great introduction to the incredible formations, while the Hidden Passages Tour is a bit more mysterious. You can spend an entire day exploring the site, and there are activities for everyone from adrenaline junkies to easy riders. After a long day at the caverns, treat yourself to a scoop at Justin’s Ice Cream downtown and call it a day.

DOWNTOWN VIBE: On your last day, eat like a celebrity at, Magnolia Pancake Haus of Food Network fame. The restaurant gets crowded on the weekend, so visit weekday, get there early or play miniature golf next door while waiting. Some diners have tried checking in on Yelp when they’re within five miles of the restaurant to reduce their wait time. The authentic apfel pfannekuchen (apple pancake) is incredible. After breakfast head back to the river for a day of touristy fun. Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Is right across from the Alamo, so anyone in need of a real tourist fix can grab quick selfie in front of this Texas history icon before checking out the oddities across the street.
Battle for Texas
Ripley’s features three attractions. Louis Tussaud’s WaxWorks is about a half hour to 45-minute walk through more than 200 wax figures. The kids can check out the classic fairy tales room or the superhero display, while Texas history buffs can bask in the glory of the Alamo battle heroes. Other famous faces include Marilyn Monroe, Oprah and Michael Jackson in three stages of his life. Go Rio Boat Cruise
The Odditorium features historical oddities like 3,500 pounds of the Berlin Wall. And the 4D Moving Theater offers two short films with special effects. If the Alamo and Ripley’s left you hungry for history, try the Battle for Texas Museum right down the street. On May 4 they’ll have a live Fandango celebration where guests are transported back to 1836 to join the Texas Revolution. Treat the family to dinner at the Rainforest Cafe. On a hot summer night, nothing feels better than the cool mist of the rainforest. The animals come to life, and the thunderstorms roll in while you chow down. Finish off your final day with a relaxing guided tour aboard GO RIO Cruises on the River Walk where locals, seniors, children, and military receive discount admission.
GET OUT OF TOWN: A fifteen-minute drive north of downtown takes you to Top Golf. This towering tee box is home to more than a hundred climatecontrolled bays. The bays are priced by the hour, not by the person, so groups of one to six people can enjoy sporty time together. The facility features a full-service restaurant and bar, a rooftop terrace with a fire pit and free Wi-Fi. After your scratch golf game, head back down to the river for some tableside guac and a prickly pear margarita at Boudro’s Texas Bistro for the ultimate Lone Star send-off.

Restaurateur Lisa Wong was born and raised in San Antonio of Mexican and Chinese descent to Isabel Sanchez and Samuel Wong. Lisa embraced the best of both cultures, inheriting Grandpa Wong’s entrepreneurial spirit.
